Javier Brey is Professor at the University of Seville. He made his doctoral thesis on subjects in which he began with Prof. I. Prigogine at the U. Libre in Brussels, being his advisor Prof. Juan de la Rubia. Since then, research in both kinetic theory and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics has been a constant in his professional career.

In parallel, Javier Brey has worked on topics as varied as vehicular traffic, state equations and critical behaviour of classic fluids, stochastic processes and ecological models, structural glasses, exact properties of Ising models, compaction, etc.

In recent years, part of his attention has been focused on the exciting world of granular flows, of which he is one of the great international specialists. He has an outstanding relationship with training programs, having been Vice-Rector and Director of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Seville. He is currently a professor of the postgraduate program in Physics and Mathematics (FisyMat).

He has participated and coordinated numerous projects of the National Research Plan (Spain) and the European Union, as well as has organized and been a member of Scientific Committees of relevant congresses of his speciality.
